Ruta Ghebrewold (also known as Ruta Yosief) was born and raised in Asmara, Eritrea. Her interest in art started at a young age when she became fascinated with drawing and painting. Eventually, art became her tool of expression and creativity.

Her work includes multimedia abstract realist paintings with various methods like acrylic paint, grains, soldering and collage. Additionally, she has also worked with printmaking and wood work. She has participated in various group exhibitions and received awards while she worked in Eritrea and Uganda. She draws inspiration from her surroundings, life experiences and stories she encounters. And for this reason, she refers to her art as her other self.
